THIS SPONGE OR THAT SPONGE?

By Innurbeautyxoxo - 19:47

One of my favourite beauty tools for a very long time now has been, the cult Beauty Blender Sponge. It is very rare for me to find a 'dupe' for a product that I am fanatical over and I am extremely sceptical about recommended 'dupes'.  I'll be reviewing both the sponges after testing them out for a good few months and giving my opinion on whether I think the Real Technique Miracle Sponge is a dupe.

The Beauty Blender was a game changer when it came out a few years ago and for good reason! I was always hesitant about using a damp sponge to apply my makeup but this sponge gives the most flawless complexion, I would happily give up all my brushes for this sponge. Have you ever wondered how celebrities get that perfect finish ladies? You need to get your hands on the sponge! I almost always use the sponge damp, once it has been dampened, it doubles in size. I always apply the product onto my skin then blend it out with the sponge, I never apply product directly onto the sponge as the product can soak in and stain the sponge. I religiously blend my foundation out using this sponge, I apply the foundation with my fingers and blend it with a brush and then I go over with the Beauty Blender to get the flawless finish. My favourite product to blend out with this is the Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer.

So the easiest way to determine whether the Real Technique sponge is a dupe is by analysing the pros and cons of both.

The Beauty Blender

PROS

  • Gives a flawless finish with no streaks
  • Elliptical shaped so can reach the hard to get areas
  • Suede texture so super soft
  • Latex-free, non-allergenic, odor free
  • Can use with multiple products

CONS
  • £16, a little expensive for a sponge

So now onto the highly claimed ‘dupe’, the Real Technique Miracle Sponge. I absolutely love the Real Technique range, some of their brushes are my most-used and my favourites in my collection so I was very enthusiastic about trying this magic sponge. The first difference that I noticed is that once you have dampened the sponge, it does not get much bigger than the size. It is also not as light as the Beauty Blender, it feels quite heavy and very dense. The finish that it gives is not as flawless as The Beauty Blender but for the price, it gives a similar finish and does a very good job. There are no streaks or patches left on the skin after using this product. I use this the same way as The Beauty Blender, mostly with cream/liquid products and also with loose powders. I find the best way to use these sponges is by stippling and bouncing on the skin. I found that the sponge does soak up more product than The Beauty Blender so it is more difficult to clean the sponge, the stains are quite difficult to vanish. I clean both the sponges with Johnsons Baby Shampoo and this works very well.
Real Technique Miracle Sponge

PROS

  • Three surface angles including pointed tip for different contours of the face
  • Flat surface enables easy blending
  • £5.99, bargain!
  • Can use with multiples products
  • No streaks
  • Soft
 CONS
  • Very dense
  • Difficult to clean
  • Texture feels a little like memory foam
I think the Real Technique Miracle sponge works very similarly to The Beauty Blender but I would not say it is an exact dupe for The Beauty Blender. It is a great product for the price but I think if you can splash out the £16, than The Beauty Blender is definitely worth investing into!

Do you think the RT sponge is a dupe for The Beauty Blender?
